Bookbinding workshop

Do you want to create something unique and personal that you will use for the whole next year? Then join us for our Bind Your Own Calendar workshop! In this workshop, you will learn how to create a beautiful and personalized calendar from scratch.

Majka and Ioannis will guide you through the process of selecting the right materials, deciding on all the details about your calendar, and stitching it together by hand. You will learn how to stitch on a sewing frame, how to add endpapers and covers to your book, and you will even have the chance to gold foil the cover!

By the end of the workshop, you will have a beautiful hand-stitched calendar that you can take home. You can also gift it to your friends and family as a unique and personalized present.

At the workshop, we will teach you:

  • How to bind your own calendar, from beginning to end.
  • The basic elements and terminology of a stitched book
  • How to stitch a book on a traditional sewing frame
  • How to finish and decorate the cover of a book

And all this with a cup of coffee and tea or a glass of wine in a friendly atmosphere in our studio.

Majka Dokudowicz

Hi, Majka here! I am a graduate of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Poland, and I am currently a doctoral student at this university in graphic arts. I am an artist, graphic designer, bookbinder, and paper maker. I work as a print technician at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, and I am a co-founder of Misprint.

I create my works in many techniques, such as linocut, silkscreen, and metal techniques.

I am inspired by what is found in the Metaxy space; when a person is between two poles of existence: fragments, understatements, memories, traces, obliterations, and excerpts.

I have been working in artistic printmaking since 2009, constantly improving my skills and experimenting with form and techniques.

Recipient of multiple scholarships of the Mayor of Wroclaw and the Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. Nominated for the prestigious Young Talents Award (2023). She has participated in artistic residencies in Germany (Grafik Werkstatt), Spain (Art Print Residence), and the USA ( Zygote Press). She has won many prizes and awards at international competitions and biennials around the world, including 2nd Prize at the 12th International Biennale of Miniature Art in Czestochowa; Prize of Excellence at The 8th NBC MESHTECH Tokyo International Screen Print Biennial, Japan; 2nd Prize in the experimental printmaking category Mini Print Kazanlak.

Ioannis Anastasiou

Kalimera! Ioannis here. I am a graduate of Aristotle University in Greece and received a Ph.D. in art from ASP Wrocław. I have lived in Wrocław since 2019. I am a visual artist, printmaker, and bookbinder.

I currently work as a printmaking technician at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, and I also am a co-founder of Misprint.

I create mainly using printmaking and bookbinding techniques, creating prints, sculptures, and artists’ books. I am inspired by modern history and collective memory, and I use archival material and historical imagery in my work.

He was awarded 1st prize for young artists in the MATAROA AWARDS competition in Greece in 2021. Participated in artist residencies in Spain (Art Print Residence) and Lithuania (9th Latgale Printmaking Symposium). Winner of many awards and prizes at international competitions and biennials around the world, including the 17th International Triennial of Small Graphic Forms in Lodz, the 3rd International Biennial of Contemporary Engraving in Romania, and the International Exhibition of Printmaking and Art Books in Rijeka, Croatia. His works have been presented in more than 150 exhibitions around the world.
